About Glutathione

Mechanism of Action: Glutathione is a tripeptide antioxidant (glutamate, cysteine, glycine) that neutralizes free radicals, supports detoxification, and maintains redox balance in cells. Injectable forms are used to directly raise plasma and intracellular glutathione levels.

Indications & Off-Label Uses: FDA-approved only as a supplement; injectable forms are used off-label for oxidative stress reduction, liver support, skin lightening, “anti-aging,” and overall wellness. Clinical evidence for these purposes is limited.

FDA Status: Not FDA-approved for disease treatment; available through compounding pharmacies.

Clinical Evidence: Small studies indicate potential benefits in reducing oxidative stress, improving liver function and mild effects on skin pigmentation. Evidence for anti-aging or general wellness in healthy adults is limited.

Safety & Monitoring: Generally well tolerated; potential side effects include injection-site reactions, mild GI upset, and rare allergic reactions. Long-term safety data are limited.
